The boxed trifecta allows the punter to simply nominate three (or more) horses, and they can finish first, second and third in any order. The straight trifecta requires the partner to nominate the first three horses in the race, in order. There are two basic kinds of trifectas: the straight trifecta and the boxed trifecta. If the result was 1, 3, and 2, in that order, then your bet would lose. Congratulations, you have won the trifecta. You place a bet of $1, and runners 1, 2, and 3 finish the race in that order. This is called a ‘straight trifecta' and your runners must finish first, second and third in the correct order.
